What to put below the mantel on a fireplace when above it is barn wood

I'm going to put barn wood from our parents old barn above the fireplace, with a old beam as the mantel. What would complement that under the mantel?

I would use a decorative molding, and decorative big wooden brackets.
Regarding barn wood...make sure the wood is not infested with termites, etc.
