Lately I've been finding it hard to find small objects like keys. To solve it, I made a mini storage tray.

Items like this cost a couple of dollars in stores so I decided to 'craft' it out. Actually this craft is inspired by a leather tray I found online and was able to recreate it using my home made clay

Inspiration from online shop

You can use any color for this. As for me I've been obsessing recently with orange tones and splattered design. I still have acrylic paint for this color but in case you don't have you can just mix red and yellow. We will also need black clay.

First thing to do is to knead your clay to achieve the consistency you want. I knead it for 30 minutes to make it harder and easier to roll.

Flatten it and add small amount of black clay.

You can then use your rolling pin to flatten the black clay.

Add more black clay as you go along. I want the orange color to pop so I did not add too much of it.

Once done. Cut your base into square and lift the edges up so it would look like the a tray .

Pinch the edges to create a unique design. Let it dry for a day and glaze it. I wanted to retain the matte finish so I did not glazed mine.

Tip: Since we are not using mold, let it dry it dry with boxes on the side to keep its shape.

Also, remember airdry clay turns two tones darker from its original color. Keep it in mind when you mix the colors at the beginning of this process
