During a walk one day I picked up some pine cones, knowing I could use them for a craft project. Then a friend gave me this little mirror. I instantly knew I could transform it with the pine cones.
I took the mirror out and put it in a safe place.  The next thing to do after cleaning the frame off is to paint it a dark brown.  I used a sample jar of paint.  Any dark brown will do.  You want to make sure any gaps won’t stick out.
Now the fun begins.  You have to take the pine cone apart.  I did this by using a small saw.  Then I alternated with my pruning shears and scissors.  And twisting off the bud scales.  Start in the corner and start gluing the pieces of pine cones around the mirror frame.
Glue the pinecone scales all around and allow to dry. Then do the second row the same way and the third row.
After the third row, I started gluing the bud scales in sections.  Use the ends of the pine cones on the corner.  For the last row reverse how the pieces of pine cones so it looks like a scalloped edge.
For protection, I used a spray crystal glaze.  I wasn’t very happy with the look.  So I took care of it by brushing on a copper glaze top coat.  That did the trick.  It is subtle and has a slight glimmer.  The frame on the mirror looks so much better with its pine cone texture.  An easy project with so much style.

I love it. This could be used on photo frames too. How did you treat the pine cones before using them?

Great Amazing Idea! How long did it take to glue together?

You could make several for a craft fair. They would sale good here where I live.👌😀😍

Would those leafy pine needles that fall in clumps, work as part of the decoration in the corners? I see those all the time around here. Glue them on too. It'd be like a feathery addition to the frame.
