Scrappy Reflections – A DIY Embellished Mirror Tutorial

Here’s a simple scrap busting idea to transform a mirror found in the trash into a colourfully cheerful treasure:

Grab a less-than-stellar mirror.

I discovered this huge and heavy beauty in the trash – it appears the previous owner had attempted to spray over the lacquered finish without sanding first resulting in a drippy mess, but lucky for me as I now have a groovy new mirror to upcycle!

Grab your trusty glue gun, scissors and a pile of colourful fabric scraps.

Snip and rip your fabric scraps into strips.

Twist each scrappy strip and glue them all around the mirror frame leaving enough hanging over the bottom to wrap to the back.

Quick tip: using a disposable wooden chopstick or old wooden utensil to position/hold/press your strips into place will save your fingertips from ouchie glue gun burns.

Once the mirror frame is completely covered, twist the ends of the strips around to the back and secure with a bunch of glue.

Add a twisted scrappy bloom if desired.

And your fab new mirror is complete!

So much better!

It’s also a fab embellishment for a boring bulletin board too!
