Showcase your colorful taper candles with this handmade candle holder that’ll fit right in with your modern decor

This DIY candle holder is made from natural air-dry clay and bamboo skewers. I experimented with dyeing the clay with pigments but in the end, the easiest way to get this blush pink is to mix in terracotta and white clay until they blend into each other.

All you need to start is some bamboo skewers and some air-dry clay. I mixed 2 shades of clay to get a very light pink but you could also try a marbled effect!

Roll out the air-dry clay and use a small bowl to cut out an oval shape with a craft knife.

Roll another ball of clay flat and cut 2 long strips of clay about 3/4″ (2cm) wide.

Score the edge of the oval shape and wet it a little to increase adhesion. Press the strips of clay around the base and work the pieces together with a bamboo skewer, scoring and smoothing with your fingers to join the pieces seamlessly.

Cut a piece of strong cardstock and wrap it around the base of your taper candles with masking tape.

Next, cut off pieces of bamboo skewers and glue them vertically on the cardstock tubes to create fluted candle holders.

You'll need to make 3 tubes.

Finally, press the 3 tubes into the base plate and let the candle holder dry for a few days.
