We loooove pillows in our home! What could be better than snuggling up on the couch with a warm blanket and a pile of pillows to read a book or watch a movie together? Well, there is something even better: doing so with a pillow that hugs you!

My little boy didn't want to get rid of his favorite sweatshirt, which had become decidedly too small for him. So I made him happy by repurposing it into a super comfy neck pillow to cuddle up with. The pillow inserted into the body makes a comfortable backing, and the arms wrap around the neck and shoulders in a snuggly hug!

All you need is an old sweatshirt or sweater, a pillow insert that fits inside the torso of the shirt, some stuffing, sewing supplies and some snaps.

Start by sewing the torso of the shirt closed. Sew along the sleeve seams (from one grey arrow to the other) and then along the neck seam (from one red arrow to the other). You can sew by machine or by hand.

Fill each sleeve with stuffing, then sew the wrists closed above the cuff.

Add snaps to the bottom of the sweatshirt so that it closes flat. The male will be on the front and the female on the back (or vice versa).

Then add snaps to the sleeves. The male parts will be on one sleeve and the female parts on the other so that the two cuffs can snap together.

Here's a detail of the wrist snaps. Notice how they snap together as if there were a person inside of it!

Put the pillow insert inside the body of the sweatshirt, snap it shut, and you're done!

Now all that's left to do is to lean back on your new neck pillow and relax! You'll love the feeling of it hugging you!
