This lumbar pillow made from an IKEA area rug is by far the easiest throw pillow to make. Yet it has such great texture and fun fringe you'd never guess it's an $8 DIY.

It is quite literally only 4 straight lines of stitching, and zero cutting. So if you're a beginner seamstress or seamster and you want to make pillows, this is a great place to start. If you have some sewing machine experience and want to further your pillow making skills I have other tutorials on my site.

The beauty of this project is that the rug is only $3.99 at IKEA and the zipper was $3.50, so you get a really textural and fun pillow for less than $8 and only a few minutes of your time.

The first step is to sew the zipper onto the long sides of the area rug. Pin the zipper to the fabric with the zipper pulls face down. You’ll essentially create an inside out tube. The zipper pull will be on the inside.

Install a zipper foot on your sewing machine, and sew as close to the zipper teeth as possible without sewing into them.

Once the zipper is installed, you flip the pillow right side out, and topstitch down both sides next to the fringe to close up the pillow.

The last step is to steam, stuff, and style...

You mentioned "steam, stuff & style"... what did you mean by steam? Also, what did use for stuffing?
