Vintage DIY Chenille Pillows

Hey y’all! It’s time for our monthly Thrift Store Challenge and I’ve teamed up with several of my blogging friends today! 💃🏽 The rules: We each need to find an item from a thrift store, yard sale, estate sale, antique store…you get the idea! We need to take the item and basically make it our own, plus style the item in our home! Challenge accepted!!

I decided to go straight back to that white vintage chenille blanket that I found at a church rummage sale for $2.50. Remember the blog post I did on the handmade chenille pumpkins? Just in case you did not see it, click here to see the post.

I have been wanting to make a few vintage chenille pillows for our master bedroom and this challenge was perfect for that! Since I already had this blanket and the poly-fil, this practically cost me zero dollars for this challenge!!

I love how there is a few spots on the chenille blanket that has been mended over the years. I can tell the blanket was hand-sewn and I can’t help but wonder how that tear must have gotten there…but I love the character it gives!

First thing was deciding what size I wanted the pillows to be! To be honest, I just held the fabric up to my pillow shams and decided I wanted them about half of the size (give or take) of the shams. After deciding on the size, I cut my first pillow template from the vintage chenille blanket. I cut two pieces per pillow.

I chose to leave the fringe on one pillow, to dress it up a bit more!

Place right sides of fabric together, pin or not pin, if you prefer. The one below is the fringe pillow, so if you chose to use fringe, make sure to tuck it inside!

Sew all sides, leaving enough room on one edge open, so you can flip your pillow inside out, then stuff with poly-fil!

Wallah! You have an easy vintage chenille pillow! I made a total of 3 and I love the one with the fringe best of all!

I hope you will hop on over and visit my friends to see what they have found on their search for our Monthly Thrift Store Challenge!

That bed. Where did you get that bed? Please don't tell me you built it. I want it.
