Vintage Pennant Pillows

After seeing vintage pennant pillows a variety of places--Etsy and the Country Living Fair I decided to try my hand at them after coming across a few old pennants at an antique mall in Hocking Hills. I chose the Ohio Caverns pennant since it was a place I had actually visited. Mount Evans Colorado on the otherhand, represented a place I'd like to go someday.
I started out by picking some coordinating fabrics to go with the color of each pennant.
Next I cut out the fabric for the size pillows I wanted and sewed the pennant on with a sewing machine.
I did an envelope style pillow where the backside of the pillow is made of two pieces of smaller fabric that overlap for an opening (to stuff the pillow with).
I decided to add a corded edge. So I sewed a piece of the fabric around cording. You want cording long enough to go around the perimeter of your pillow.
After I sewed the cording, I pinned it on one side and sewed it together before adding the two pieces for the backside of the envelope pillow. You want to sew the pillow together inside out (pennant side and back cover facing in) then turn it right side out to stuff it.
Here is one piece of the back side of the envelope pillow. After you add the overlapping piece you sew it all together and turn it inside out.
Here are some pics of the finished product. Read more on the blog.
