4x4 Wood Pumpkins | Scrap Wood Pumpkins

4 Materials
30 Minutes

I had a ton of scrap wood leftover from our recent porch project and with fall coming our porch was actually missing something... a cute piece of decorative decor. I knew I wanted to create pumpkins of sorts and I knew exactly what would work for it.

to the workshop....

I gathered the scrap 4x4 drop offs I had and cut them to a staggered size. One is 18 inches, one is 15 inches and one was 10 inches.

They are pressure treated so I know they'd be able to withstand the elements on the porch.

I am using a 3/8 drill bit and my drill to drill a hole in the center top of each of the pumpkins. This is where the stems will eventually go.

I drilled in about one inch deep. A great way to ensure you don't drill too far is simply putting a piece of tape on your bit where you'd like to stop drilling.

I then picked out paint colors. I had 2 spray paints and also this mineral paint.

I sprayed one solid white, another solid amber gold & the other white with slight misting of the gold.

once the base layers of paint were dry, I used a foam dabber on one to create polka dots and painters tape on the other to create strips.

Once the paint was dry, it was time to attach them all. I picked out a orientation I liked that showcased a little of each of the pumpkins.

I then seal coated them with polyurethane.

Using wood glue and clamps, I attached them.

while I waited for them to dry, I headed to my yard and found some sticks to act as my stems. I simply used wood glue in the hole I drilled, suck the stems in deep enough and wiped any access wood glue from the surface.

I also added some faux fall leaves that marched well.

I absolutely love how this DIY project came out and I especially love that it was absolutely free. These would make adorable gifts and I've seen them done for various holidays including 4th of July fireworks!

I did them for the 4th of July. I have two 4x4 offcuts that I just got out to make some pumpkins to add to the 1"x4" cats I made last year. All free!
