Craft Domino Pumpkins for Fall

This little pumpkin takes two dominoes. Just think how many you could craft from one game. It stands without propping, and depending on the fabric used, the sky's the limit for it's personality. Make a fall vignette, or make them to sell at fall craft shows.

Cut a 1-inch length from a green pipe cleaner. To prevent ruining your fabric scissors, use household utility scissors to cut the pipe cleaner. This is the stem. Apply craft glue to the dot side of one domino. Center the stem on one short end of the domino with a 1/2-inch extending off the end. Place the other domino on top of the first with the dot sides together. The end of the stem will be sandwiched in between. Allow the glue to dry.

Tear the corner off of a household kitchen sponge. Pour a small amount of brown acrylic paint on a paper plate. Dip the sponge corner into the paint. Sponge paint the pumpkin and stem. Solid coverage is not necessary. You will be covering up the center of the pumpkin with fabric, so this area can be left unpainted. Allow the paint to dry.

Cut a 1 1/2-inch-wide by 4-inch-long strip from orange fabric. I used scraps of upholstery fabric left over from a previous project. Cut a 1-inch-wide by 4-inch-long strip from burlap. Pull off the first long string on each long edge of the burlap. This will fray the edge.

Wrap the orange strip around the body of the pumpkin. Overlap the ends, gluing them to secure. Center the burlap strip over the orange strip. Wrap and secure in the same way as the orange strip. Allow the glue to dry.

Center and wrap a strand of raffia around the pumpkin. Knot the ends and tie a bow on the front. Trim the raffia ends. Place a dot of craft glue under the raffia knot to prevent the raffia from sliding off of the pumpkin.

Apply a dot of glue on the lower, right hand portion of the pumpkin's front. Place a button over the glue.

Pull a small, silk oak leaf from an oak floral stem. You only need one. Apply craft glue to the base of the pumpkin's stem. Place the leaf in the glue. Allow the glue to dry.

Jack O'Lantern Alternative

Black dominoes can also be used for this project.

To make your pumpkin into a Jack O'Lantern, omit the raffia bow and the button. Paint orange. Cut face features from black felt and glue to the front of the pumpkin, or use acrylic craft paints.
