Happy fall! Which led me to being in the mood to decorate for fall. Today!

And right on target, I had wished I grabbed a few pumpkins to decorate with for fall prior.

However being pumpkin-less apparently had its perks... because I decided to see if I could come up with my own out of scrap wood. Plus, they'd never rot, right?!

Grabbing a square post and some grapevine branches, here's the adorableness they became...

Raiding the scrap wood pile is always an adventure. What can that pile of nothing become?

A square post, plus two other small boards that would ultimately become a pumpkin patch sign, plus grapevine stems were gathered up.

Then the real fun began!

Creating DIY wooden pumpkins from scrap wood

The square posts were cut to 3 different lengths, to create different sized pumpkins.

Then the tops were drilled, and outfitted with some grapevine branches.

Isn't that curly part just the best finishing touch?

These wooden pumpkins were looking mighty cute already, but we aren't quite done with them yet... more below!

How to make a Pumpkin Patch sign

Next up was to create a Pumpkin Patch sign that could be teamed up with the DIY wood pumpkins.

The stencil Pumpkin Patch with Pumpkins - Small from HERE was stenciled in Fusion Mineral Paint's Chocolate.

How to stencil to achieve sharp images:

  1. dip stencil brush in paint
  2. remove most paint to create a dry-brush feel
  3. tap or swirl paint through stencil for desired effect

After the sign was assembled, the sign was then screwed to the back of one of the pumpkins to create the sign stand.

More building directions are included in the original blog post tutorial link below this post.

Where to find fall stencils

Various fall stencil designs HERE were used to further stencil the pumpkins, really bringing them to life, telling a full fall story!
