Painted Pumpkins

Orange pumpkins have their place and I know some people feel you shouldn't mess with perfection but I am not one of those people. I like all the different colors: traditional, neutral, non-traditional. This year I decided to keep my summer colors around a bit longer by turning my pumpkins a watery blue. I started with old pumpkins, some paper mache' pumpkins I bought with a coupon, and little ones I bought for less than $1 each at Walmart.
Remove stems if you can. The foam little ones from Walmart came right off. All pumpkins got two coats of white chalk paint that I had left over from other projects.
While the 2nd coat of white was still wet I worked in a small amount of watery blue into the white, blending the color in well.

I grabbed more of the blue color and blended into the ribs to give them a darker shadowing of color. Paint the stems that need it; layering yellow, burnt umber and dark brown to give it a more realistic look.

Allow everything to dry. Replace the stems that you removed.
Enjoy your colored pumpkins! Next year you can make them a different color!
