Recycled Sweaters Into Sweet And Chic Embellished Pumpkins

1 Hour
Always game for recycling or repurposing anything and everything, I just had to make some sweater pumpkins. I've seen so many over the years and loved the idea, so I just had to give it a try! I had sweaters boxed away that I couldn't wear anymore, and it didn't look as though I was ever going to shrink back into them either! I had thought of making some with sweaters a couple of years ago along with other pumpkins I wanted to make but always ran out of time and kept saying next year, and then another year went by so another next year. Well this year I finally did them...ALL! For the last three weeks I've been making pumpkins of all different types! Plus a few more ideas have been added to my list as I was knocking off the list I already had. I don't think I'll ever see the end of my pumpkins to make list!
My last creations this week were the sweater pumpkins. I wanted to make some special ones embellished with vintage laces, some sparkly bling, pearls and whatever else that might come into play as I went along. I always have some idea of what I want, but with most everything I do....each creation takes its own course usually far off my original plan. All of them were a no-sew pumpkin. I like that because my sewing machine is up this long flight of stairs to the second floor and I just hate that climb! So, just twine, yarn, and a glue gun.....then some pretty things in my stash to embellish them with, and of course a sweater. My formal dining room is looking like my craft will take me a week to get all this stuff back up those stairs! Ugh!
For this sweetie I used a taupe colored cashmere sweater. Took me a week staring at this to finally decide to take the scissors to it, and then a few more days before I got an idea of the look I wanted. Victorian came to mind. This is "Victoria." I just love how she evolved!
On a roll now, I next took this off white turtle neck sweater that I had always loved, and wanted this pumpkin to be in shades of white. I also wanted pearls and lace. I didn't use the pearls the way I had originally planned because in the making of this one, the plan took its own course. The feathers came into mind when I got it all finished along with the sparkly oval rhinestone. It just didn't seem finished without a bit of sparkle! Once finished all I could think of was wedding which lead to purity, so this is "Purity." This one just totally surprised me when it was all done. Nothing at all like I had first imagined it to be!
This last sweater I used was a sweet creamy color in a bit thicker type knit sweater. All I knew for sure on this pumpkin was that I wanted some bling on it. I made six pumpkins out of one sweater with still some left! The first one I wrapped with a beige colored yarn then switched to twine. I liked the rustic dainty look the twine gave to the creamy color. They all have different rhinestone jewels on them and I topped them off with a single leaf I cut from a painters drop cloth.
I loved all my sweater pumpkins when I was finished and had hours of fun creating them and bringing them to life! Will be posting my Fallish pumpkins later. OMGosh.....I just got a vision in my head for another white one! Gotta run before the idea gets lost in space somewhere!
See how these came together and more on the blog at the link below.
All four of my extra special creations....."Sweet and Chic Embellished Pumpkins"....with one being made of pink chenille.
