It sounds like they might be defective, Ashley. I would take them back to where you bought them.
Did u have them stored tip up?
Maybe you're pumping it too much, before using it.

Happens to me all the time. I shake them well to get them started and dab the tip on a folded paper towel until the drips stop. Then I use the pen as it should be used without any mess.
Store them in a cup with the tip end upward.
I do as well. Store them tip side up! And consider name brand ones which leak a bit less :)
