Not sure what you mean by smarten up?
If you have an old ceramic decor like a cute frog or even a mini ceramic bird or basket of flowers, just any decor from around the house it can be set in the bird bath. Also, I use colored rocks from my walks in nature and place them around the edges for the birds to hop on after their baths. It helps brighten up the bird bath. Hope this helps, Kathy

Hello Kathy,
Paint it with Hammerite- comes in many colours. (Especially for metal).
Spray paint is my go to "freshen upper".
A spray paint meant for metal, exterior use is usually the best bet. I wouldn't paint the basin itself, since paint may be toxic for the birds. Good luck and stay safe!
Hello before painting I would inquire with paint manufacturer about potential toxicity if they will be feeding from it.
You can paint it. Just make sure the paint you use is safe. If it is cement, it can be power washed. I did this to mine and it looks like new!
Hey there, i need help with choosing the right safe paint kind for my bird bath it’s steel so i don’t know if it’s safe for birds to paint it and i don’t want to hurt them because I really like animals especially birds, maybe because my mom didn’t let me have one when i was a kid. I used to take care of around 20 birds of different colors and types in my backyard, i buy them from wild bird food suppliers, give them water, and clean the bath for them. They’re so cute, i really enjoy watching them every morning.
Hi,
Paint it a nice colour!
