Hosta always looks beautiful surround a base of something. There are a lot of varieties, plain green, green and white, green and ivory.... plant them in a circle about a foot to 18" apart. Add periennels in front of them in between two plants that are lower in height OR taller ones behind them in between plants. It makes a beautiful border. The hostas will fill in and make a lasting year after year display.

I would go with the rounded concrete edging blocks that don't have to be mortared together. Depending on the terrain and type of beds, you may be able to only go one course high but I think 3 is very pretty. Then fill with a good soil and you are ready for flowers. I would be tempted to put flowers in a pot though and avoid the additional hassle of adding soil and building up the bed.
Kathy’s idea is perfect.
Around the flower pots you could put styrofoam scraps and then mulch on top of that to make the pots look like they’re in a real raised bed.
Thanks for all the suggestions. All I need now is energy to do this project. Appreciate all of you.
