The first thing to do is be sure you have clean dry pots.
You can spray on or paint on a polyurethane sealer, be sure to cover the whole pot right down to the drainage hole and allow to dry before adding another coat. To make drying more complete you can place your pot on a smaller diameter container, something like a toilet paper roll size.

I you don't need them to be porous as they are intended, you could spray with an exterior shellac or urethane sealant.
Hello. In my experience I have found it’s important to seal interior and exterior parts before painting them.
The other way around there is a problem when you water a plant—- it’ll blister the exterior painted finish off.
If you want a rustic chippy ununiform look this will be achieved painting without a prepaint seal.
Hope this helps.
You have to seal the inside first or it will cause outer painting to fail. Seal with Marine Varnish- at least 3 coats on inside.
