I'm not sure what type of light you want to make. but these lids are solar powered for fairy lights. These would look great outdoors.

There are a number of ways. First find a way to secure the mason jars if you are going to string them or hang them from the ceiling. They you can add a string of Christmas type LED lights in the lid of each one and secured with a washer etc. or put in a battery lighted string in each jar showing multiple little mini lights in each jar. Either way gives you a soft light.
