How do I “ disguise” the innards of lamp hardware?

I have a drum style lamp shade that is very pretty, however you can see right through it; The ugly lamp hardware shows through and I’m trying to figure out how I can disguise the hardware or soften it or… something so that you don’t see the ugly hardware. Any ideas out there?

How about spraying it all white to blend in?

I'm getting the idea that you are supposed to see through the shade with the material that is on there. If you don't want to see through it at all, yes, by all means paint it with a pretty color or gold or silver. But if you like that see through look, why not play up the inside a little and hang some crystals on strings, hanging from the rods around the light bulb. The strings can come down all the way or halfway down around the light bulb....your creation. It might add a lot of interest. OR what what if you put a thinner straight drum shade in the middle of this shade. Just throwing out ideas! :). Good luck!

    Hi there,

You could stick Mirrored Sticky backed plastic like Contact and available from craft stores to cover up what you don't like. They also sell the same thing in gold/brass -silver/steel and Bronze.............

Buy a decorative bulb and let it show thru. Or add paper to the inside of the shade using a large sheet so you will only have one seam. cut to fit and tack it on with hot glue.

Anything you do is going to diminish the amount of light.

I agree that it is not attractive as is. It would not be difficult to make an opaque shade fo this lamp. Paper, fabric or a combination of them.

Hi, How come you didn't know all you wanted was a 1960's lampshade?

It's always fun to print something on a white sheet of paper and insert onto the back side of a lampshade. When lit, the word shows through....... I've done ZZZZ in large to small font, just makes me smile when I turn my bedroom lamp on while getting ready for bed. Subliminal suggestion........ :) Or you could use some uplifting word you like.

Oh I like that idea. I’ve just stuck a smaller shade underneath the larger one however, I may give some more consideration to your idea. Thanks!
