How to DIY fake rock in Concrete ?
hi everyone, l have rock wall and a pond in my garden with massive ugly water filter on top. I’d like to hide it with a fake rock but the once on sale in stores are not to size. So if anyone knows how to make one hollow inside to fit the filter, not to heavy to service the filter.. l was wondering if it’s possible to use table cloth or IKEA bag dipped in concrete on top of a chicken wire setting ? Yeah.. I know it’s audacious. Pls help, it’s a major eyesore. Thanks

Google "hypertufa". The challenge is to create a shell that is lightweight yet rigid and strong enough not to crack when moved. Chicken wire might not be rigid enough once it's weighted with concrete. If you wrap it over a frame (wood? re-bar?) it should add that extra non-flexing support it needs.
chicken wire and old sheets (you can get at goodwill) dipped into concrete will work just fine I would paint with some grey paint just for extra protection, hope this helps xx
I've made "rocks" with expandable spray foam, the formula for extra wide cracks. It can be cut using a sharp utility or steak knife to whatever shape you want. Then paint with a good primer, I always use "Gripper" and then paint it to look like a rock.
thank you all for your input. In the meantime l have covered the nasty filter with the “fake ivy” carpet that’s why you can’t see it ( just behind mini Roman columns). But l still need my fake rock for the pump that comes behind the filter. When it’s done l’ll post the pics and tell you how it went. You are awesome 😎
