How to make "gingerbread people" ornaments?

My granddaughter and I made salt dough ornaments one Christmas and after we baked them in the oven and they cooled I put a clear sealer on them. Years later they still look great. You can paint them or add color with food dye or paint

These last for years and years. Fun to make and easy to work with.

You can use regular dough or a salt clay dough that is scented with gingerbread oil. st.eVarnish with any polyurethane. Several thin coats works best.

What ever you use may I suggest using cinn. /ginger/ pumpkin spice, essential oil to scent them. It holds up better than the real thing.

We used the recipe that is cinnamon and apple sauce. I store them in the freezer. I suggest making them a bit thicker than a normal sugar cookie. They are kind of brittle. We didn’t decorate ours. I only put a thin red ribbon thru the hole I made before baking to hang.
