How to make make permanent luminaria?
I went to Santa Fe New Mexico over the holiday season and would like to make some luminaria for my yard. I would like to use the Christmas lights but I don't wont to use paper bags, no sand or candles. However, I do like the paper glow but using a paper bag will not work. Any suggestions would be helpful!!

You can buy electric lumenaria. We used them to decorate a flat resort rooftop many years ago. They held up well for many years of use,
Will these work?

Unfortunately, they still need sand or pebbles to weigh them down.
The luminaria can be made using plastic 1-gallon water or milk jugs. You cut off the tops in the shape you want and then add something to weigh them down. Plaster of Paris could be an option for this. The hardest part of using the jugs is removing the labels.
Why not try some glass blocks, that are used for building. Just add tea lights or you could drill holes in them to weed Christmas lights through. You should run water on the glass and the drill bit at same time to prevent cracking the glass.
See if you can find acrylic jars, or rectangular shaped. Spray the portion you desire with a can of window frost. You’ll have to experiment to decide what gives you the look you’re aiming for. You could also add a tad of color paint in light brush strokes. You can place baggies of white rice in the bottom for weight if necessary. You can buy flickering candles with timers to be set inside on the bags of rice. Would love to see what you end up doing, and why it can’t be paper bags. 👍🏻😃
