How can I tie strips of material together to make a ball?

does anyone know an easy way to tie cut rags/strips together for a rag rug...thanks

    Ray, I've made rag rugs before. I just tied an overhand knot at the top of three strips of fabric. Then I pinned or nailed the knot to a board and started braiding. As one strip gets short, take another strip and weave it into the braid (no more knots.)

      I have seen knitted work also on really LARGE needles-like size 50-ish.

      Sounds like fun!

    A rag rug is supposed to be 'rustic' by nature, so a simple knot should do the trick.

    There are ways to use a large crochet hook to make the rug-most craft stores have instructions and supplies for this kind of project.

      i can knit, but attempted to crochet...i don't know what you would call the outcome stitch...material ready..am going to start with place mats I saw in AWE...for daughter..thank you for our response..i did a purse by tying and I really liked how it turned out...
