I loved doing art with hot glue last year and it’s past time to do some more. Hot glue is now available in some colors and metallics. I’ve been meaning to confess this for awhile: if you are a bad artist, as I am, your painting with hot glue won’t be any better. However, use a pattern or stencil to draw on paper or pumpkins, and your drawing skill will be much better! You only need a pencil and a plan. For a pumpkin, the curved web lines need to be symmetrical, as much as you can. The closer to the center of the “web”, the closer the lines should be to rack other. As you get out from the center, make the horizontal lines further apart, saving glue and covering more space. I suggest black or metallic glue on a pumpkin. To make placemats, the mat needs to be structurally strong throughout, in concentric circles with joining lines, to a square or rectangular checkerboard pattern, to a coat of arms, the lines need to be more or less evenly spaced without tall mounds of glue. Do not set hot plates or bowls on top of glue mats because the glue will begin to melt again. That’s one reason you should use parchment paper, waxed paper, or, my choice, aluminum foil, on the table and under the glue. The mat will pull off the foil once cooled. And if it sticks, you can use embroidery or small scissors to trim the foil away. To “paint” a picture, I suggest cloth or foil “canvas” and multiple glue guns, if you have them. One color or size glue in each. I have accumulated several $5 guns for my granddaughters’ use, and finally realized how convenient it was to have more than one ready for use. And ART can be any shape and colors you choose! Have fun and please post your creations on Hometalk.com. Jewell
