Here are a few ideas! I think my personal favorite is to cover it with a lamp shade: https://www.homestoriesatoz.com/decorating/do-boob-light-fixture.html
WHAT I WOULD TRY IS DRILLING LITTLE HOLES ALL AROUND THE LIGHT & THEY SELL PACKS OF CRYSTALS IN MENARDS & SUCH. ALSO IF YOU’RE A THRIFT STORE JUNKIE OR FLEA MARKETER YOU CAN ALSO GET OLDER CHANDLIERS & TAKE APART TO USE PARTS & YOU CAN USUALLY DO THIS FOR VERY LITTLE MONEY... WITH A FEW TOOLS & SOME PAINT YOU WILL BE SURPRISED AT WHAT YOU CAN DO!!! HAVE FUN🌹
I like the oil rubbed bronze fixtures. Take it down, clean it and get some quality spray paint to paint over the gold. (the 1990 called they want their light fixture back) Get the copper craft paint from a craft store and a sponge brush. Ever so gently load the brush sparingly and pat it until it is almost dry. Then apply the copper to the edges to give it the oil rubbed bronze effect. Or ... just go buy a new one at a home improvement store.
You could pick up a new light cover fairly cheap and the try this project:

If you are replacing it a chandelier would be nice or a pendant light

Hi Michelle, you could paint the brass a silver or brushed nickle color, and buy a new funky shade, you could also clean up the original shade. Here is a video that may help you

Hello, I just found this fabulous idea for it too!
https://www.remodelaholic.com/update-ceiling-light-crystal/
You could fit screw hooks all around the fitting and then string Beads or Cristals etc on to the hooks., looping them at different heights. You could use the same hooks or others further out to make the lighting of your dreams. Draw out ideas first or go for it, it is up to you. Remember, you can always remove it, if you are not happy and try again or not!
I painted the gold edge of the lightfixture to match my ceiling and got a pretty stencil and painted sunflowers on mine and they look great. I've got my kitchen and dining room painted with sunflowers and it looks great.
