70s Style Letter Holder Upcycle

I love a really great thrift store find and the other day I was at Salvation Army thrift store and I almost past right by this beauty.

I took a second look and knew that at the $2.99 price tag, I just had to take it home with me.

I really didn't know what I was going to do with it at first but I knew that I could think of something.

The 70s style is not my style at all but I knew that with a quick coat of paint this little piece could be something really beautiful.

Painting

For painting this piece I chose the shade Dune Grass from Country Chic Paint. I had to use very little and I love this paint because you don't need to do any sanding or priming prior to painting.

I debated about keeping the yellow flowers but they're just really not my style so I painted the entire piece.

Sanding

Once my piece had dried for a good 6 hours, I sanded the edges just a bit with some 80 grit sand paper. I wanted to reveal just a hint of the dark wood underneath on some of the edging.

Even while I was painting and sanding, I still didn't know what I was going to do with this piece.

I wasn't until I stepped back and looked at it completed that I knew just what I was going to do with it!

It would be a perfect piece for my bathroom and in a most unexpected way, too! Take a look at this video to see just what I did with this piece.

Doesn’t it fit in my bathroom so nicely!?

I like that I can now use this as a towel holder and a place to display greenery! I hope you will check out my blog post and my site for more great DIY projects!
