Some time ago, I mentioned in one of my projects, that I collect broken and junk jewelry from thrift shops and garage sales. Today, I thought I would show you one of my jewelry projects that is excellent for creating a last minute gift.

Probably none of us would dig thru our old jewelry and give it as a gift. However, to create something new from something old is what we hometalkers are all about. I have yet to see a project on Home Talk that I personally wouldn't love to receive as a gift. I hope you enjoy this one.
Gather together the necessary tools. This set of tools I found at a garage sale for a mere $3. You probably have the necessary tools already in your garage.
Next gather the necessary materials. Here I have a variety of chains, broken bracelets, charms taken from a myriad of other jewelry items found in my "junk jewelry collection.
I like to keep like colors together. Here the complete tassel is made with silver chains, black and crystals. I measure the chain to be approximately 4" long and use about 10 pieces of chain in each tassel. A variety of chains makes it more interesting.
For the gold collection, I added a variety of jewels and charms. Notice the clasp used at the top of the tassels is one of those easy on clasps.
These are great to use on a key ring. A lot of fun to hold and fidget with.

Attach it to your blue jeans. What teenager wouldn't love that!
...or attach it to your purse or backpack.
Attach to a chain and wear as a necklace.
Here I tried to spread one out so you can see the number of chains and charms. Take notice, I used a thimble at the top where the chains all gather.
Yet one more example with plenty of charms added. A girls cannot have too many charms I always say. These all come from broken earrings, bracelets, necklaces etc.

Well, there you have it. Time to rummage thru your old jewelry and let the fun begin. Reason to make two... you will want to give one as a gift and you will want to keep one for yourself. By the time you finish, your only problem will be which one to give away and which one to keep.
