A Great Suggestion Leads to a Charming DIY Project

A sweet Hometalker left a great suggestion in the comments of one of my projects. It was such a wonderful idea that I couldn't wait to make this crafty accessory to complement my new guest room makeover.

I recently painted a lampshade as part of a makeover of our guest room. I used this thank you card as inspiration for my lampshade design. Then a smart Hometalker left a comment on my lampshade project, suggesting I frame the card and put it in the room next to the lamp. I thought this was a great idea!

I found this simple white frame at Ross. It was only $4 and the perfect size for my card. I liked the frame, but it was a little bland when I put my card in it. I knew I needed to add something to the frame to make it more interesting.

I had some beaded Christmas garland in my stash of craft supplies. I thought that I could use this beaded string on my frame to add some interesting detail. I've used this beaded garland in another project as edging and I really liked how it looked.

My frame had a shallow area that was the perfect place to put the beaded string. First, I placed the garland against my frame and cut a piece that would fit along the bottom of my frame.

Then I put a line of hot glue down and adhered my beads to the frame.

I repeated this step, cutting a piece of garland for each side of my frame and attaching it with hot glue.

I tried to keep each of my strings as straight and tight against the band of my frame, but it didn't need to be perfect.

Once my glue was hardened, I painted my beads using white acrylic paint. I used a small brush to get in between and under all the beads. It took multiple coats of paint to get into all the nooks and crannies around the beads.

My finished frame is the perfect way to show off this lovely card. I love to simple charm this frame gives my room. Thanks again to that Hometalker for this smart suggestion!

You mentioned using multiple coats to cover the nooks and crannies. Would it

have been faster/easier to paint them before gluing them down?

This is a cute idea. I might try a similar project using Mardi Gras beads (in concentric rectangles) but leave them their original colors.

But I also like the monochromatic frame you made.

Thanks! Yes, I think any color beads can work, depending on the frame and the look you're going for. Your idea sounds great!!
