I got this paint from Hometalk, I've been sitting on it for a few weeks trying to decide what I was going to do with it. Maybe some picture frames, but I really wanted those to be white. Maybe the hamper thing in the bathroom.... Maybe... too many ideas. I have a bunch of silk flowers left over from a previous project and I had never painted a jar so I thought lets try this stuff and see how it looks. The paint is Heritage Collection, chalk style paint in Cobblestone. The back says it is all all in one paint. Water based paint with bonding primer, wax and top coat all in one step. How interesting I had never heard of this stuff so thank you to Hometalk for sending me this neat paint. Oh I should mention it's is the 8 oz sample size and says it covers 35 square feet. I think I am going to use the rest of it on a bathroom cabinet thing turned laundry bin/storage, as soon as I find something to create embellishments with air dry clay. That thing needs some dressing up.
I got out one of my Ball canning jars. The Ball brand is more interesting it has fruit on one side and cup markings on another side. The Kerr brand only says Kerr which is fine but I wanted to paint and sand so the glass showed through and make it look aged. So I went with the more interesting detailed jar. I started with the all in one Heritage paint, the jar and a brush. I washed and dried the jar I didn't even bother to clean it with alcohol. Let's give that bonding primer a run for its money.
First coat dried really fast, but it is looking a little streaky. Which is fine if that is the look you are going for. I however, wanted full coverage.
I ended up doing 3 coats. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to dry enough to touch. I should note that this paint needs a lot of stirring. It seemed oily on top. it might be liquid wax. It was wet and clear on the surface. Stir until it isn't streaky.
Once it was thoroughly dry. About 30 minutes after the last coat. I got out a coarse sanding sponge and started sanding. You can see that fruit image that I mentioned at the beginning. I sanded until that image was clear. I did the same for all of the raised images and a little here and there on the "Corners" and the threads at the top.
I wanted it to have a bit of a more aged look so I got out my Minwax brand special dark wax. This step isn't necessary I just wanted it a bit darker and dirty looking.
Just a shot of the other side. It's done, now to fill it with silk flowers. Of course since this is painted on the outside you could put water in it and fill it with real flowers.

This project cost me nothing as I had all of the stuff in the house. Your costs will vary depending on what you need to purchase, if you don't already have the things. A google search tells me this 8 oz jar is about $20 the 32 oz is around $35 depending on where you buy.
