I went all out on this basket makeover with napkins, stamps plus a matching tag and bow.

I just love this style of basket. And this one is so well made. I took it outside to give it a couple coats of white spray paint.

I used Rust-oleum paint and primer combo.

I then sprayed it with this very pretty soft blue chalk paint. And sealed it with a clear chalky finish

Time to give it a shabby chic look. Using an old chippy brush I dried-brushed on white paint. Be sure to off load the white paint onto a paper towel first. You want your brush to be almost dry. It will then be easier to control the amount of paint goes on the basket.

Just keep going until you get your desired look.

Here’s a closeup. But we have lots more to do

I decoupaged a pretty nautical napkin on the inside using a napkin decoupage medium. You can always use slightly watered down regular mod podge too. If you decoupage with something too “gluey” it will be easier to tear the napkin. Don’t forget to use only the top ply of the napkin.

As you can see I did a little bit at a time.

I use some crumbled up Saran Wrap to smoosh it down. If the plastic wrap starts to pick up some of the glue, change it out for a clean piece. I added several coats of mod podge (drying real well in between coats) to seal the inside really well.

And there you have it. But we are still not done!

I decided to decoupage on some neat stamps with dark blue paint.

Now how do you decoupage with stamps??

I first stamped the images onto plain old tissue paper.

After it drys I first cut it out.

Then I used water on my fingertips to give each one a rougher outer edge.

Now decoupage them on. Then you can spray the whole basket again with a clear spray.

I added bows and a matching decoupagee wood heart

Close up of how pretty it all looks.

I hope this project inspired you to think outside the box.
