Beach Inspired Weathered Twig Lamp Shade

My mother gave me a this shell lamp for my birthday a good 25+ years ago. At one time the lamp shade was fitting. That old lamp shade has since gone by the wayside, so I bought a plain new white lamp shade, but it just wasn't doin' it for me. It needed a little something more...beach inspired.
Beach or coastal inspired faux weathered twig lamp shade.
Here is what I started with.
I collected twigs from the yard and game them a faux weathered treatment, then I applied them to the white lamp shade with hot glue.
To keep it balanced, I started with 4 twigs opposite each other.
Then I added a twig in between each of the four twigs, so I now had eight twigs.
Then I added eight more twigs in between the first eight, so I now had 16 twigs.
Then I just filled in the rest of the spaces with twigs, lining them up like sardines.
Lastly I trimmed the top and bottom portion of the twigs off with garden sheers.
Now this gift from my mom is good to go for quite a few more years.

How do you faux weather the twigs - they look great!

I noticed that you used hot glue to fasten the sticks to the lamp shade. When the lamp is in use, does it effect the glue, causing the sticks to become loose ?

  • Great timing! My granddaughter is warming her bedroom made up in a beach theme. This is going to be fun to create. I do not have a shelled glass bottom but hopefully I can think of a way to incorporate the shells. I'd appreciate ideas also.

It sounds like it's going to be a fun makeover. I know I've see clear glass base lamps. Some of them are even blue tinted, or you could tint one a beachy color. I can't think where I've seen them, but try Target and Homegoods, to start. Good luck on your room makeover!!
