I seen a beautiful blue frame with a piece of printed burlap displayed in it at an antique shop. I refuse to buy anything that I can duplicate myself at a fraction of the cost. It was the beautiful blue that caught my eye. I snapped a picture for future use. I was working on several projects at once. I couldn't start another project until I finished at least one of the others. Well I finally finished both projects. So on to the blue frame project.
I went to my local Goodwill store and purchased a decent looking frame. It was only $3.99.
I took the glass and cardboard out of the frame. I spread newspaper to protect my island from paint drips. I put it on top of an empty egg carton. It makes it easier to paint it with it raised off the newspaper.
I took a paint brush about the same width of the frame. I put two coats on the frame. Making sure each coat was completely dry.
I took out the burlap my sister Susan gave me and cut it the size of the piece of cardboard from the back of the frame. I then spread wood glue on the front of the cardboard. I then put the burlap on top of the cardboard. I put books on top of the glued burlap to keep it down until the glue dried.
When it was dry I put the cardboard back in the frame. I tried placing corks I bought from JoAnns Fabric in a heart shape on top of the burlap. My sister sent we a photo of a frame with a heart in the middle of it. I guess its like not being able to draw free hand. I can't arrange corks in the shape of a heart either. So I decided to cut a heart out of a piece of construction paper. I placed it in the center of the frame. I then hot glued the corks around the heart.
I removed the construction paper heart. I painted the tops of each cork. It is a bit different than my inspirational piece but I am happy with how it turned out. I hung it up in our kitchen. Blue is my accent color in our kitchen.

Oh yes! I'm very inspired. At first glance, I thought the heart was made out of large push pins. I'm thinking pins might work for my "copycat" project. There are several sayings a person might somehow add in the middle of the heart such as "You make my heart smile!"
