Bread Box Makeover

Bread boxes are easy to find at thrift stores, but usually look dated and are in no condition to put food into. I loved the simple lines of this bread box, but it was pretty sad shape.
A good scrub with TSP took care of all the grossness and got the wood ready to be painted.
There was a notch for your fingertips to open the lid, but I wanted to use a handle to prevent the paint from getting scratched. I attached a piece of painter’s tape to the back of the drawer pull I planned to use, and poked a pencil into the holes where the screws will go. Then I centered the painter’s tape over the notch and drilled the holes for the new hardware.
I applied chalk mix paint to the entire box, using some dark gray oops paint I bought at a huge discount at the hardware store. I used one coat on the inside and two to the outside of the bread box.
It was looking a little plain, so I added a French stencil (affiliate link) to the door of the bread box to spruce it up.
