Create high-end looking-Pottery Barn inspired potted succulents for $10 or less!

Now that I've slowly begun putting out spring decor, I've decided to do so in a purposeful way. Adding only items we enjoy and that make our home relaxing and cozy.

Recently I was looking for inspiration online and found several gorgeous pots of succulents that I absolutely adored! There is just something so zen about the arrangements. But this particular one cost $99! So I decided to try and re-create it but for MUCH less!

I already had some faux succulents that I'd picked up at the Dollar Tree a few weeks ago. All I needed now was:

  • A vessel to put the succulents in
  • rocks
  • moss (optional)

Since I didn't want to spend any additional money, I decided to shop my home for something to put the succulents in. I wanted something large enough to hold quite a few rocks and at least 7 succulents. I also wanted it to be shallow enough so I could see both from any angle. After quite a few fails I finally spotted a stack of pasta bowls in our kitchen cabinet. You can find these at many stores. I purchased mine last year for $5 each. This particular pasta bowl is 32 oz. It was perfect!

The first thing I did was remove the succulents from their pots. It was as simple as pulling them out of the styrofoam insert. TIP: Keep the pots for starting or planting seeds this spring!!!

Next, I began filling the bowl with rocks. I started with larger river rocks that I picked out of our rock garden. (Not an easy task under 5 feet of snow but oh well :) Once I had my first layer of rocks down I began to fill the outer edges with a few smaller rocks.

Once I had a good foundation I began setting the succulents. Starting with the larger ones first.

Then I used the moss to fill in around the base of the succulents. This is totally optional but I liked the added texture and organic look of the moss! Lastly, I added two smaller succulents and filled in the remaining empty spaces with some of the nicer rock that I had purchased.

And that was it! Pretty easy-peasy but I really LOVE the way it turned out! I still can't believe how realistic those faux succulents look and for just $1!

Here's a side by side view of the inspiration garden and my garden! Since I had everything on hand mine cost $0 but if you were to buy each item the total cost would be $10 or less! I'll take a savings of $88 any day!

You can find my full tutorial and links to where I found the items I used over on my blog! Have fun creating!
