Can't Find a Wine Barrel Tray? Make Your Own

I keep on seeing the most beautiful things from Pottery Barn, like their wine barrel top tray. Ahhh man it’s so pretty but it's way to expensive to fit into our budget. So we decided to make our own.
Fortunately we had this broken table top that we found in a woodpile.
Look at our little Cleo inspecting the wood. I bet if she could hold a hammer she'd be right there building things with us icon Do your purr babies do the same? The slates were all bent from standing outside for so long.
We dismantled the table and cut a circle to form the base of the tray from the wood that could be salvaged. The leftover bits were cut into 3" (8 cm) pieces to go around the edge of the tray.
We added a graphic on the circle before gluing the edge bits on. To finish it off we screwed a metal tension bracing strip all around the edge. It was the only thing I could think of to mimic those hoops that go around a wine barrel icon
I'm really happy with how it turned out and all it cost us was some time. We had everything else icon
What do you think. Can we leave our day jobs and go work for Pottery Barn?

P.S If you'd like to see the step by step "how to", we've got loads more fotos and instructions on the blog.
