I LOVE THIS COOL TECHNIQUE !!! You can create awesome holiday projects as long as you have some super cool wood grain !!! Check out your local hardware stores for wood cuts to create holiday art, personalized gifts and more !! Easy DIY that looks so professional !!!
TIS THE SEASON !!! ....Grab some awesome grain and your UNiCORN SPiT, and create candy cane grain art ! WHITE NING, DRAGONSBELLY and MOLLYRED PEPPER are perfect holiday colors !
UNiCORN SPiT is a vibrant colored gel stain, glaze and paint product. Although it can be used on a myriad of surfaces, I love staining wood !!
It is highly concentrated !! For this project, we are going to dilute with plain water about 50% ! Grab your non-bleach antibacterial wipes too..... they are going to help us bring out that awesome grain !
Using your wipes and fingers, trace the grain with red first, leaving some exposed for your other colors .
repeat with green, still allowing a bit of wood to show through between your colors.
Blend with a clean antibacterial wipe ! We left those spaces so the colors have somewhere to go when blending. If your colors are too close together, you will get overlap... {red and green make brown}
dilute your white ning about 50-60% ...we're going to sort of "wash" over your vibrant red and green grain !! You guessed it !! , Grab another clean wipe to do so !!!
UNiCORN SPiT dries a little dull and chalky....that's ok ...were going to take care of that in just a bit. I actually like that it does; we know when each layer is dry enough to proceed !!
using a detail brush, I freehanded a few green lines to represent the bare branches of a tree.
Then filled in the needles !!! To get a nice dimensional effect, go back over some of your strokes to darken the color !!
Grab a can or glass, or any round object !! Using a piece of plain white chalk, trace your circle just below your lowest painted branch .
see where this is going ???
Your Molly Red Pepper makes for a perfectly holiday red ornament !! ...Simply fill in your circle !!
I used a little gold metallic paint to create the top of the ornament, the chain or string holding it on our branch, and a little stenciling to give it some "bling"
As with any UNiCORN SPiT project, seal with an oil based sealer, such as HELMSMAN polyurethane {see pic above}. That chalky look disappears and brightens your work {MERRY AND BRIGHT}..... add hanging hardware for art, maybe some wooden feet for a decorative tray, even handles for a serving piece !!! Let me know what you decide !!!
