I bought a cheap set of remote controlled flameless candles that looked, well, just that – cheap! So I decided to give them a little make-over.
Cedar Grilling Plank & Candles Create a Feast for the Eyes!
I mixed a couple tbsp of mod podge with a tbsp of metallic paint and painted the candles using a sponge brush.
Afterwards I painted them again with glitter paint that had cool gold flakes.
While it was still wet I sprinkled a small amount of gold dollar store glitter on the bottom of each candle.
Now that the candles were looking fab, I needed a fab holder. I used a cedar grilling plank that I bought years ago for $1.99.
I decided handles would look cute so I went rummaging through a box of hardware I recently bought at an auction and found two drawer pulls that I thought would look great. I wanted the handles to sink down flush with the plank so I used a drill bit that same size as the ‘legs’ on the hardware and drilled 4 holes. I used a metal plate as a guide to make sure each hole was the same distance from the edges.
Then I lightly sanded the plank and sprayed it with distilled water and painted it using blue thunder unicorn spit, using the sponge brush. Once it was dry I applied a coat of tung oil.
While I was waiting for everything to dry I cleaned the hardware (who knows where those have been)! I made a mixture of ½ cup vinegar, 1 tsp salt and a few tbsp of flour to create a paste. I applied the paste to the hardware with a cloth and let sit for 10 min. Then I rinsed and buffed the handles. There wasn’t a huge difference, but it certainly made them less dull. And probably removed years of finger prints!
Then I attached the handles using their original screws and covered the screws with little padded furniture feet.
And voila – a sweet little make-over that I basically did on my lunch break!
