How to transform my summer urns, which still have beautiful ferns, into Christmas urns?
How to make my ferns that are still beautiful here in southwest Missouri, even though we have had a freeze, look like Christmas? I have been seeing several urns decorated with logs sticking straight up, on different blogs, magazines and Pinterest.
I needed something that would add a little color and that height that the logs are achieving in the blogs and magazines. I purchased red and gold spike sprays from Hobby Lobby. These sprays are at least 3 foot in length, with lots of glitter and are somewhat heavy.
First, cut all the spikes off, as long as allowed from the main stem. The spikes will be different lengths, which is okay, as long as you have at least two long spikes of each color.
Since the spikes are different lengths, the longest spikes should be in the middle and the shorter ones around the perimeter.

If you have two urns, continue to push an even number of spikes in each urn.
The added touch to still use the beautiful ferns and a spot of Christmas to match the rest of the Christmas porch decorations.
Suggested materials:
  • Christmas Spike Sprays   (Hobby Lobby)
  • Wire cutters

  • Agree, but at the time, that is all I had purchased. However, you can see them now. The ferns finally had a good freeze.

What is the fern variety, and where did you get such Large specimens?

    (Lovely doorstep dress-up!)

    • I both the ferns in the Spring at Lowes. The ferns have been growing all summer, so yes they are huge. The variety, I'm sorry I don't know.
