Combat Kitchen Linen Fatigue

Design and create your own oven mitts and kitchen linen set by upcycling old clothes and towels. All you need is a sewing machine, some thread and your imagination.
Something had to be done. My dollar store oven mitts were dreadfully ugly, stained, and burnt. My tea towels were literally full of holes.
Instead of buying a new set, I decided to design my own.
I hate to throw anything potentially useful away, so I have a decent stash of old clothes, towels, and sheets available for new projects.
For this project, I used a scrap of fabric, a smallish pair of pants and a large towel.
My old oven mitts served as a rough template. I traced one oven mitt onto the pants fabric leaving a generous seam allowance and cut 2 fronts and 2 backs.
I used the scrap fabric to add to the design near the cuffs.
Then I sewed each of the 4 pieces onto the towel, which was then cut out.
I fashioned a hanger for each glove using the scrap fabric before sewing the gloves together.
They looked so much nicer in my kitchen that I decided to continue the theme. I made 2 hot pads, 1 long, 1 square; and a tea towel using applique.

After testing them out, they outperformed my old dollar store mitts in preventing heat transfer.
