Cool Baby! Updating a $68 Builders Ceiling Fan

We live in Arizona and it's hot. H-O-T!! So as we melted away in our kitchen, installing a ceiling fan has been To Do #1. It helped when we hit a sale at the local hardware store and brought home a $68 standard builders ceiling fan. Useful but oh-so boring! With the help of a $10 metal farmhouse basket, some vintage metal flowers and a light kit, we easily and quickly took it from dull to "cool"...

BEFORE: Plain white ceiling fan.

Start with your standard, 'plain jane' ceiling fan. We purchased a large ceiling medallion, which we installed first on the ceiling. Immediately, this takes it from standard to high end. The next purchase was a light kit, all of which can be found at your local hardware store.

Add ceiling medallion for easy high end look.

Prior to installing the ceiling fan onto the ceiling, we used a $10 wire metal farmhouse-style basket and turned it upside down. We used wire snips to cut an opening through its bottom. It was then secured with bailing wire around the light kit.

Cut opening in wire basket, secure with wire.

The goal is for the basket to be sandwiched between the fan and the light kit. With the basket attached, we affixed some vintage metal flowers onto the basket, securing them with floral wire.

Vintage metal flowers add charm to fan.

Literally and figuratively, it's "Cool Baby"!

It's very cute, but being married to an electrician, I have to ask if you aren't concerned about the added weight throwing the fan out of balance and causing the fan motor to make noise and wear out faster than the manufacturer warranties ?

Can't just blow dust off , it will build up over time from smoke n living be more then just dust .
