Transform an old block of wood into a stunning and on-trend cactus string art piece. Easily use this method to create any art shape out of string.
Depending on the shape of wood block that you have, you may need to sand it down to soften any rough spots. Wipe off any sand dust.
Spray your wood with a protective clear gloss spray enamel if you prefer a shiny look to your wood block.
Tape your template to the block of wood. Using a sharpie and ruler, mark at about 1/2" mark all around the cactus shape.
Using your hammer, hammer nails into every dot mark all along the outline of the cactus. Be sure to make sure all nails are at similar height level with each other.
Once all nails have been hammered in place, peel away your paper template.
Take your embroidery floss and knot one end around a nail towards the bottom of your design. Begin weaving thread around nail heads randomly working in small sections at a time. You seriously can't mess this up! Fill in any blank spots as you see fit.
Keep working towards the top of the cactus. Be sure to also go around the perimeter of the cactus. Repeat this same method with the pink thread for your cactus flowers.
Once you're happy with the design, tie a knot around one of the nails to finish off the look and cut off any excess thread.
Here's the before and after shot of this project. I love how cute and easy this art project was. I can't wait to display it in my home.
