DIY Desk Organizer and Homework Station

School paperwork and homework organization is every parent’s challenge! We desperately needed some place to hold my daughter's homework folder and other in-progress paperwork. This is what I came up with!
The top pocket holds her homework folder and any workbooks and the hooks hold little buckets of markers, pencils etc. The best part is – I used scraps and an old shelf and the only cost was the hooks.
I started with some scrap wood - an old shelf and a fe pieces of 2 x 4 and 1 x 3 boards. If you don't have the shelf like I did, you can just use a piece of 3/4" plywood.
Attach the 2 x 4 boards to the shelf and the 1 x 3 board to the bottom to create a pocket. Use a few (affiliate) spax #8 screws. I love them because t hey don't need pre-drilling.
Next attach the front of the pocket and paint it the color of your choice.
Attach the hooks to the bottom part of the shelf/plywood to hold the little buckets or baskets of pens and pencils. I used hooks from a key holder. You can use cup hooks. large cup hooks too. Add a quote in the front or a design if you like and you are all done!!
It has made life so much easier with this homework station. And if she needs her markers someplace else, she can just pick up the bucket and take it with her! Check out the blog post for more detailed instructions and full source list.
