I have seen these driftwood sailboats around Pinterest and decided to try and make my own. I have quite a supply of driftwood and I have some vintage hankies that have just been sitting in a box, so I decided to use them too.
I collected my items. I picked a piece of driftwood that would sit flat, my hankies, a stick for the mast, thread and needle, hot glue, and 2 small eye-screws.
I drilled a hole in the enter of the driftwood and hot glued the stick into it. This will be the mast of the sailboat. It can be as tall or thick as you would like.
I drilled a tiny hole in each end of the driftwood and screwed in the eye-screw. This will be where the ends of the sails are attached.
I cut triangles from my fabric. I used the height of the mast and the length of the driftwood to figure out what size piece of fabric I needed. I didn't measure too precisely, just a rough estimate. I glued the fabric to the mast and then used a needle and thread to attach the fabric to the eye-screw.
Once the fabric was attached to the eye-screw, I was able to peel off the glue and move the fabric higher or lower on the mast, depending on where the mast was tight and straight.
Now I have my trio of sailboats! They are ready to sail into summer!
