Every time I’ve had some left over wood from a big project ,I like to see what I can add to my home using those scraps of wood. One of the most simple of projects you can do with leftover wood is a book-stack. I already had the paint , sharpie , twine and floral clippings from a faux lavender plant so I just went for it !

Step 1: I cut my wood to my preferred size . Each of my wooden books measured 8 inches long , 4.5 inches wide and were 3/4 ‘s of an inch thick. I used extra pieces of common board I had from previous projects .

Step 2 : After my wood was cut I sanded it lightly and decided to paint my book stack white !

I did not perfectly paint my boards because I was going to distress them a bit so they looked worn.

Step 3: I sanded my painted boards until I liked how distressed they looked. I want to add that I did not glue my books together, but you can totally use different methods to keep them in place. Wood glue , glue , command strips .

Step 4: I added my family’s names with sharpie on the side of the book . Again, you can used stencils / stamps or stickers for the names, but I just freehanded our names with a sharpie .

step 5. I wrapped my entire book stack from the middle with twine. I wrapped it about 5 times.

Step 6: I added a clipping of my faux lavender to side of the books !

This was such a cute fun project that I enjoyed working on . If you already have all of the material lying around go give it a try and if you don’t , this project is super affordable.

Maybe do a small decorative stencil at top bottom or center of the “book” spine, to give each a unique design, as well as your names?

This is great if you have lumber and saws....why not just use old books? Paint them, write on the spines, and have same look with less weight and no sawdust! Cute idea either way.
