When I was making over my craft room, I wanted everything to match including the waste basket! So, I headed to my local hardware store and the dollar store, and came up with this idea.
Watch the video instructions here! All you need is rope, a glue gun, and a mold. I chose a plastic trash can from the dollar store.
Start by coiling the rope and securing it with hot glue.
Place it on the bottom of your trash can to use as a guide, gluing it with hot glue as you go.
You can stop at anytime you like. Make a shallow or deep bowl or continue to make the waste basket like I did.
If desired, you can use yarn to add color by wrapping it around the rope and then gluing it.
Suggested materials:
  • Rope   (OSH Hardware Store)
  • Hot glue and glue gun   (Walmart)
  • Plastic trash can   (99 Cent Store)

I was wondering if you could make a hassock the same way only keeping in the plastic basket or any cylindrical pail.

Can you tell me how much rope you needed to get at the hardware store for the project?

I'm new to the hot glue game and I wondered if there are different strengths of glue sticks? I don't think my glue sticks could ever hold up to the weight of the rope.

If you have an old table or chairs with banged up legs you can hot glue small diameter rope, rafia (that comes in several colors), those cheap bead necklaces (thrown during parades, etc.), up and down the legs.

Even the cords used for macrame or the newer thicker yarns would work...again a multitude of colors to pick from.
