I love that September hit and it instantly cooled down to temps in the 60s and 70s here in Chicago! I seriously cannot. get. enough! This is my favorite time of year hands down, and I’m always eager to get out the pumpkins, plaid blankets, spiced coffee, and scarves! I was excited to come up with a cute fall phrase and a frame to give my home some new fall decor.
Since I have major home decor commitment issues and can’t bring myself to shiplap a wall in my house yet, I decided to make a shiplap frame.  Much less permanent, but just as cute!
I remembered from my DIY Crawl Space Barn Door project that Home Depot had these inexpensive poplar boards in all different sizes.  I bought a few 1/4″ x 3″ x 3′ and had a Home Depot employee cut them into thirds for me, making each of my boards 12″ in length.
I grabbed my wood glue and a foam brush.
I started by brushing the wood glue on the 1/4″ side of the board.
I glued the wood together to resemble shiplap.
I ended up making my frame six boards tall, to give a good size border around my print. Once I had my boards glued together horizontally, I took two additional boards and glued them to the back of my frame going vertically, to keep it extra sturdy.
I had leftover white chalk paint, so I used that to paint the frame. I only did one coat of paint to make it look like more of a “white wash” instead of a solid white.
I attached the print to the the boards by wrapping twine around the corners of the frame.  I also secured the print on the frame by adding a couple small pieces of masking tape on the back of the print.
Isn’t it a great addition to my fall mantel?!  I love the texture the frame adds to the space!
