DIY Switch Plate Covers

Last fall, I decided to repaint my entire house. Big job but I was sick and tired of the ‘builder beige’ walls so it was totally worth it! Now, my soft gray walls with fresh white trim look so much better. While I love my walls, I did notice they need a pop of color. So, why not decorate the plain ole light switch covers? I recently discovered alcohol inks and absolutely love the unique watercolor effects you can achieve. Plus, alcohol inks are super easy even for beginners to use.
Supplies needed:
– Alcohol Inks
– White or Light Switch Plates
– Rubbing Alcohol
– Medium to thick Art Paint Brush
– Straw (optional)
– Clear Acrylic Sealer
– Disposable cup or dish
– Table cover
– Gloves (optional)
– Plain sheet of paper
This really doesn't get any easier! All you do is cover the plate with rubbing alcohol and then start adding the alcohol inks. You can paint them and manipulate them with brushes or a straw if you want. All I did was drip the inks on the plates one at a time. The colors will flow and move, blending together to make interesting, organic patterns.
Once you're happy with your plate, let it dry completely - overnight if possible. Add some acrylic spray sealer and you're ready to hang your little works of art!

You could also HYDRO DIP the outlet covers too!! Just another technique that popped into my mind

For my light switch covers, I found a pretty scenic French Country wallpaper border and covered them. If they get dirty, I just replace the wallpaper on them.

Wish I'd seen this before trying to decorate a main wall around the ugly thermostat cover. I ended up making a wall grouping of pictures etc., including it, but it sure would have looked better with a splash of color on the stat cover. I love this idea! Have you ever seen it done on tile before applying it as a backsplash?
I tried this and was very happy until I used the modge Podge sealer - not only did it move my inks but blended the colors , definitely didn’t adjust but I didn’t want to toss it .
