DIY Window Plant Shelves

My husband and I wanted to take advantage of the massive amounts of light pouring through our sunroom windows, so we decided to build these plant shelves to hang in front of the windows. An advantage of hanging them up high instead of using a freestanding shelf is that our cats have a tougher time getting up there to knock things over :).
Building the shelves was simple; we basically put together two shallow boxes (the lip keeps things from getting knocked off too easily) with 1x6 pine boards and "fill strip" (which apparently is mostly used for fixing lattice; we just knew it was the right size for what we wanted).
We found our Black and Decker Autosense Drill handy for screwing the shelves together, since the fill board is so thin, because it has a built in sensor to stop it from overdrilling and splitting the wood.
Once the shelves were made, we cut some small strips of wood to hang next to the window molding, so the shelves could hang flush with them. Then just used simple white brackets to hang them up.
Detailed step by step instructions on my blog. And you can click here to take a tour of the whole sunroom.
