Make this easy and colorful God’s Eye yarn craft as a fun craft or home decoration. Here’s how to make it!

Are you looking for a fun new craft project to make yourself or with your kids? We’re adding some fun summer camp activities that you can do at home here at Two Kids and a Coupon to keep your family busy. These projects are inpired by the outdoors and summers spent at camp and camping with families. We recently shared our dreamcatcher craft and next up on our project list is a classic yarn craft that families have made for summer for decades.

To make this god’s eye yarn craft, you will need yarn, two wooden dowel rods and scissors. All of these items can be purchased at your local dollar store. You can also use two short sticks instead of dowel rods, if you prefer.

Variegated rainbow-colored yarn was used for this craft project, but you can also use different scraps of yarn matching the colors together to create a pattern.

Colorful God’s Eye Yarn Craft

To get started, you will want to gather all of your supplies. Your first step will be to tie a double knot around the center of the first dowel.

Next you will want to lay the second dowel rod or stick across the first in the shape of a cross. Then, carefully tie a second double knot to secure them together. If you have a piece of yarn hanging off after you tie the knots, carefully trim it off with your scissors.

Next you will want to hold the sticks in one hand. Carefully start wrapping the yarn around each dowel or stick in a counterclockwise direction.

Continue wrapping around each dowel and you will notice a pattern appearing. The variegated yarn creates stripes or you can use different colors of scrap yarn to create your own pattern.

Once the dowels are wrapped, tie off the end with a knot. Leave a 12” tail on the yarn, trimming with scissors. Loop the cut end of the yarn back around to the top of the dowel. Secure a second 12” length of yarn around the dowel, finishing with a bow. To secure your knots, you can add a dot of liquid craft glue to keep everything in place.
